Kareigawa Station is a station on the JR Hisatsu Line that opened in 1903 and is known as the oldest wooden station building in Kagoshima Prefecture. Although it is currently an unmanned station, its historical significance attracts many tourists, and it has been registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property.
The retro-style station building has been beautifully preserved while retaining its original charm, and the surrounding area offers stunning seasonal scenery throughout the year.
On Saturdays and Sundays, visitors can purchase handmade bento boxes featuring colorful Satsuma cuisine, allowing them to enjoy the local flavors. Additionally, the station is conveniently accessible, being only about a 10-minute drive or bus ride from Kagoshima Airport.
