Miike is a mysterious lake quietly nestled within the Kirishima mountain range in Ebino City, Miyazaki Prefecture.
Formed by a volcanic eruption about 4,600 years ago, this crater lake boasts a remarkable depth of approximately 103 meters, making it one of the deepest in Japan.
Located at an elevation of 500 meters, the lake measures about 1 kilometer in diameter and has a circumference of 4.3 kilometers, showing different scenery with each season.
On clear days, the reflection of Mount Takachiho on the lake’s surface creates a mirror-like, breathtakingly beautiful sight.
Along the lakeshore, visitors can rent boats, kayaks, and swan boats to enjoy a leisurely time on the water.
This healing spot, where nature and mythology intersect, is about a 20-minute drive from Kirishima Shrine.
