Oonamike is one of Japan’s highest crater lakes, located at an elevation of 1,411 meters.
The lake’s surface sits at 1,239 meters above sea level, with a diameter of about 630 meters and a circumference of approximately 1.9 kilometers. It is known as one of the highest crater lakes in Japan.
The trail from the trailhead to the lake takes just under an hour, making it a popular spot that even beginners can easily enjoy⛰️. On clear days, the blue sky reflects on the lake’s surface, creating a magical, mirror-like scenery that attracts many visitors.
Visitors can enjoy different views throughout the seasons. In spring, the lake is adorned with pink miyamakirishima flowers🌸, and in autumn, vibrant red and yellow leaves color the surroundings🍁, offering a unique landscape with each season.
The outer rim trail, which takes about two hours to complete, offers panoramic views of Mt. Kankodake and Mt. Takachiho. Along the trail, hikers can enjoy a variety of plants, beautiful scenery, and the sounds of birds singing.
