Osumi-Yokokawa Station, located in Yokokawa-cho, Kirishima City, opened in 1903 (Meiji 36) and is one of the oldest wooden station buildings still standing in Kagoshima Prefecture.
Its quaint exterior and the fact that the building has been left exactly as it was when it first opened have earned it a place on the list of registered tangible cultural properties.
It was built at the same time as Kareigawa Station on the Hisatsu Line, so the architectural styles are very similar, but Osumi-Yokokawa Station is a little larger and the night watch room from that time has been preserved, allowing you to experience the history of the railway.
In addition, the pillars on the platform still bear the marks of machine gun fire from World War II, quietly conveying the memories of the war.
This station, wrapped in a nostalgic atmosphere, is a recommended spot for railway fans as well as those who love history and retro scenery.
