HayatozukaHayatozuka

Hayatozuka, located in Kirishima City, Kagoshima Prefecture, is a historic site believed to have been built to honor the fallen Hayato warriors after the "Hayato Rebellion" in the Nara period (720 AD). This circular burial mound, approximately 40 meters in diameter, is surrounded by standing stone pillars, creating a mysterious atmosphere reminiscent of an ancient ritual site. It is cherished by locals as a spiritual power spot where the pride and spirit of the Hayato people reside, offering visitors a serene space to reflect on history.
Adjacent to the site is the Hayatozuka Historic Museum, where visitors can learn more about its history and origins. Additionally, the nearby Kagoshima Shrine makes for a great combined visit. With easy access—just a five-minute drive from JR Hayato Station—this historical landmark is a must-see for history enthusiasts.
