Wake Shrine (Wake Jinja)ワケジンジャ

Located in Kirishima City, Kagoshima Prefecture, Wake Shrine is known as a sacred site connected to Atsuhime, a prominent woman of the Satsuma Domain during the late Edo period. It’s a recommended destination not only for history lovers, but also for those who wish to enjoy the beauty of nature.
One of the shrine’s most iconic features is Japan’s largest ema (votive plaque).
This enormous ema was dedicated in 2007, the Year of the Boar. Measuring 8.3 meters in height and 12.5 meters in width, it’s an overwhelming sight—equivalent in size to about 50 tatami mats.
In spring, the adjacent Wake Park comes alive with blooming wisteria.
The park boasts about 100 wisteria trees of 23 different varieties. From mid-April to early May, their purple, white, and soft pink blossoms sway in the breeze, enchanting all who visit.
Why not spend a peaceful moment in this healing space, where history and nature harmoniously intertwine?
